House Speaker Gretchen LeWolf Steps Down As House Speaker
RUFUS - Embattled House Speaker Gretchen LeWolf at 9:00 AM this morning announced that she was stepping down as House Speaker after nearly two and half years in the seat. She says her decision to step down is merely due to calls for her to resign and recent actions by House members to Vacate the chair. She said that it will also give her more time to focus on her upcoming federal money laundering trial. She is still facing a Senate Judiciary Committee investigation and questioning. The following statement was issued to House Members by the Speaker herself.
"For the last few weeks, I have been criticized for my decision to not support unlawful detention of immigrants attempting to flee their countries of origin. But in recent weeks, I have be subjected to calls to resign, from members of my own party and from several Republicans. Therefore I announce to you all that effective January 5, 2025, I will step down as House Speaker. I will remain in Congress, to finish out my term. I will make the necessary decisions about my reelection as neccessary, but I will not seek reelection as House Speaker. Deputy House Speaker Matthew Carrington will serve as Speaker Pro Tempore, until the September 5 Speaker Elections. I thank each member of the House for allowing me to serve as the Speaker Of The House for the last 2 and a half years. Bless you all and thank you. My departure is meant to serve as a reminder of my dedication to the protection and continuation of success of the United States Of Jesstopia."
Deputy House Speaker Matthew Carrington will take over as Speaker Pro Tempore, and serve the remainder of her term until the 2025 House Speaker Elections. The Election to elect the House Speaker will take place on September 5, and will only be a vote of the Representatives of the House. It is very likely that Matthew Carrington could be elected as Speaker. A majority of Nationalists say they would support Braden Harris or Matt Carrington as House Speaker.
