Congress Passes Amendment To Raise Presidential Candidate Age To 35
RUFUS - Congress has just passed a Constitutional amendment requiring all prospective Presidential Candidates to be at least 35 years of age to file and accept the party nomination. The passage of the new Amendment has called into question Jay Laylin's candidacy, but House Speaker Gretchen LeWolf said he would be okay to run for the Presidency as he filed before the age limit was changed, meaning he couldn't be forced out.
According to Congressional leaders, she "had every right to stop him from running," but "chose to allow democracy to choose." The new requirement will effect the 2028 elections and beyond. Party leaders are saying the would hope that more people would have voted against the age increase. The amendment, upon passage became effective in the Constitution.
